First Time in Maya

This semester I am taking a modeling class. It's my first time using Maya. I made this cylinder and rotated it 360 degrees. I know that it's not real exciting but I thought it was awesome that I had success on the first try. I'm really excited for this class!

Where I'm From

Below is a poem about me that I created for a writing preparation class for upper division general education here at San Jose State University. I realize that it isn't directly related to the visual arts but I do believe that this is an art form. Enjoy!

 Where I’m From

I’m from the land of chocolate scented orchids, alphabet books, and webbed fingers
From Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Chip ‘N Dale Rescue Rangers on TV
The Fox and the Hound, Follow that Bird, The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones, The Great Muppet Caper on VHS
To Anne Murray’s There’s a Hippo in My Tub on vinyl to Bugs and Friends Sing the Beatles on cassette.

I’m from the cul-de-sac of Lake Village Drive where I played with the neighbor kids,
Santa’s rocket and sleigh that were on the front lawn at Christmastime,
From Grandma and Grandpa’s greenhouse where I watered my orchids,
To Grandma’s slider that I put my dirty paws on.

I’m from Grandma Annie and Grandpa Jim, the orchid enthusiasts
Auntie Lynne, the aunt that always left her mark with her lips on my cheek
Auntie Sharon, my godmother, Papa Vern and Grandma No-No (aka Grandma Judy)
And of course, I am from Karen and Layne, my folks that shaped me the most!

I’m from “Daddy, the Mercury has a boo-boo, she needs a Band-Aid”, “Who’s that? Grandma No-No!”, “Papa’s dirty fruck!”, and “Yay Mommy!”

I’m from the Stouffer's lasagna that fell on the floor that one Christmas Eve,
Zucchini flower pizza from the freshly picked from the garden
The hot baked salmon that just came out of the oven to the marinated skirt-steak from Freedom Meat Locker
I am from the ooey-gooey brownie-chocolate chip cookie combo, topped with ice-cream and whipped cream and chocolate sauce.

I’m from the ’86 Mercury Topaz and the ’90 Ford Aerostar, both of which are still in the family,
Segments of my life on two blank eight-hour VHS tapes, boxes of photographs in no particular order,
All of this may document my past, but who knows what the future will bring!

Film Credit Still

In my design fundamentals class, I created this factitious film credit still. The criteria was to create a film credit still by choosing a particular genre and the rest was free game. The genre I picked was a comedy. It looks like it could be in the next movie that would be like The Hangover and The Hangover Part II. Enjoy!

Evocative Words Assignment

In this assignment for my design fundamentals class, I explored how to illustrate the meaning of the word by only using letters. I explored different typefaces and really looked at the letter forms and found the ones that portrayed the feelings that I wanted to communicate. I used the words Breathe, Dream, and Move!

Breathe:

 Dream:

New Light Assignment

Here's a project for my design fundamentals class where I had to compose an image with two unlike things in a new way. For this assignment, Buster, my sun conure was next to this monkey and I quickly took the shot. Enjoy!

Masterwork Project

Here's another assignment from my design fundamentals course. First, I chose a masterwork to work with. Then, I created a focal point diagram where I found the way that the eye travels around the piece. Next, was to create a grayscale representation where I used black, white, and grays in 20% intervals. Lastly, was a reduction; I had to recreate the piece using 2 values: black and white. It was a difficult project, but I think I was successful. Enjoy!

Original - First I picked Monet's Rock Arch West of Etretat (The Manneport)

Focal Point Diagram - In Illustrator, changed opacity to 50%, created lines and found the focal points (how your eyes flow with the painting)

Grayscale Interpretation - Recreated the work using Black, White, and the grays in b/w in 20% intervals.

Reduction - Had to recreate the work using only Black & White while reducing details. All while keeping the same mood and feeling of the Original.

Explode a Square

This is an assignment in my design fundamentals class where I had to use two 4" squares and create compositions where one of them was ambiguous (unrecognizable) and the other unmistakable. Enjoy!
